These things only happened in the movies and to have it actually happening to me was mind blowing.

No other man had taken my hand to walk me down the stairs before. They were way too busy looking at my butt to care. I could fall down the stairs and break my neck for all they cared.

"You look beautiful," Mark spoke huskily.

"Thank you," I replied as I did a small runway turn for him.

That made him laugh and my heart soared. As I turned I could feel his eyes moving over my body and I tried to ignore the feeling of being undressed by his eyes. I didn't know where I got the courage to do the turn but I did it and it made me feel good.

It was a fairly short drive to the restaurant that I could never afford otherwise. As we walked in, he looped my arm with his and I moved up close to his side. Eyes turned to us and people glared.

A few muttered that I should have found me a black man.

Others muttered that I should be ashamed of myself. Others were saying that I shouldn't ever show my face in public again. I felt like a fish out of water and like I wanted to throw up. I tried to think that it was none of their business but I couldn't shake the feeling, the feeling as though I had let down black women everywhere.

His warm hand found mine and squeezed and I felt a tingle. "Want to leave?" he wanted to know.

"Do yuh know di last time I got a chance to dress up like this?" I questioned. "I could never afford to eat here on my 16
